Harrison Apple will virtually join the Arts Collaborative for an informal conversation about creative research. Dr. Apple (they/them/theirs) is an interdisciplinary artist and historian based in Pittsburgh and the Director of the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry. They are the co-founder of the Pittsburgh Queer History Project, an oral history and media preservation initiative focused on after-hours nightclubs and working-class LGBTQ lives in Pittsburgh. They received their PhD from the University of Arizona Department of Gender & Women’s Studies and the School of Information. Their intellectual work draws on transfeminist theory, creative exploitation of liquor code, media studies, and archival science.
The Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University is a laboratory for atypical, transdisciplinary, and inter-institutional research at the intersections of arts, science, technology and culture. The STUDIO is one of the oldest active centers for interdisciplinary arts research in the United States. The STUDIO is operated by a team of research and business support specialists who help shape proposals, seek out novel technology, and workshop ideas ranging from nascent experiments to public spectacles.
