ICE-Vision continues with Film Studies and English major Dafna Kaufman’s selections of great films that may be forgotten by the general public, but can be remembered and cherished through viewings today.

Often related to The Catcher in the Rye, Igby Goes Down tells the tale of rebellious and sarcastic Igby Slocumb (Kieran Culkin). His antics and adventures are hilarious and witty, yet also genuinely emotionally honest. Stephen Holden of The New York Times wrote that Igby Goes Down “lifts the lid off the gleaming casserole of post-yuppie American culture.” While overlooked in recent times, the cast of Igby Goes Down is stacked with the best actors of our day, including Jeff Goldblum, Claire Danes, Susan Sarandon, Bill Pullman, and Ryan Phillippe. This ensemble cast weaves a scathingly funny and moving story of a young boy’s struggle to grow up.
