SLINGSHOT features 50 artists from 20 countries working in sound, video, installation, and other new media. It brings in top music acts, such as Kishi Bashi, Tinariwen, and Washed Out. Also included are “TechSHOTS,” which are presentations by leading figures in electronic arts and technology. Featured artists include Tristan Perich, Quayola, and Dodd chair Kota Ezawa, plus dozens more international, national and local artists throughout downtown Athens. Art will be on view at the Lamar Dodd School of Art and the Georgia Museum of Art starting 3/20, and downtown 3/21-3/22.

Festival passes allow entry to all music, art and tech events for $20-25. Free events include TechSHOTS at the Morton Theatre, outdoor art exhibitions downtown, and the Kick-off Art Party at the Lamar Dodd School of Art and the Georgia Museum, Thursday 3/20, 7-9 PM.

SLINGSHOT features a “Machine Drawing” by Tristan Perich along with performances of his “1-bit compositions” by Sonic Generator. Quayola shows his breathtaking “Strata #4,” a glitched 3D rendering of Flemish masterworks, and Kota Ezawa exhibits two new animations based on found material from pop culture, “Onement Two” (at the Lamar Dodd School of Art) and “Paint Unpaint” (outdoors in downtown Athens).

TechSHOTS
The Tech dimension of SLINGSHOT features tech talks with leading figures in arts technology presenting on stage at the Morton Theatre, plus demonstrations and a hackathon. TED talker Onyx Ashanti headlines the tech talks, and performs Saturday.

SLINGSHOT is produced in partnership with the Lamar Dodd School of Art, Georgia Museum of Art, Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, UGA College of Engineering and the Athens Music Project, with backing from Mailchimp, Dos Equis and Urban Outfitters.
